MAGNETIC LIQUID FEEDTHROUGHS

VACUUM ROTARY FEEDTHROUGH
A magnetic liquid feedthrough is a device that transmits rotary motion into a vacuum vessel with minimal torque requirements. The main components are a magnetic circuit and precision bearings. The magnetic circuit comprises of magnets, pole pieces, magnetic liquid, and a magnetically permeable toothed shaft. Vacuum capability is to 10-7 torr with a leak rate of less than 1.0x10 -10 standard cc helium/second.

THE SEAL
The shaft is designed as a multistaged toothed structure, which together with the other magnetic components, concentrates the magnetic liquid into liquid O-rings between the teeth and the pole pieces. Each tooth has a differential pressure capability of approximately 0.2 (3psi) atmosphere and the number of teeth used depends on the working pressure typically in the order of three atmospheres. Higher pressure operation is optionally available.

MOUNTING
Feedthroughs are designed for variant shaft, cartridge seals and custom flanges are available for retrofitting and to meet customer requirements.

COOLING
Where high process temperatures are not used, no water cooled products is  supplied.

If necessary, feedthroughs have water-cooled pole pieces for extended life.

SUPERIOR BEARINGS
High precision matched angular contact bearings are fitted as standard. These provide the optimum combination of rigidity, speed, life and load bearing capability in both radial and axial directions.

Very heavy duty (VHD) model use three bearings to meet very heavy load parameters.

BODIES
Bodies are usually made from stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance. Further protective coatings are optional for extreme circumstances.

APPLICATIONS
Include vacuum furnaces, hard coating deposition systems and any process where heavy work loads are employed.
