Magnetic Liquid Seals 

The Magnetic Liquid Seals is a high performance low pressure differential exclusion seal providing total bearing protection against severe conditions of dust, dirt and other contamination including spray and washdown.

How does a magnetic liquid seal operate?

The seal operates by the trapping of a small amount of magnetic liquid using permanent magnets. The magnetic circuit is shown in the diagram and consists of magnets, pole pieces, magnetic liquid, and a shaft. Each pole piece concentrates the magnetic liquid into liquid O-rings between itself and the shaft. The liquid O-rings each have a pressure capability of approximately 3000-4000 Pa. The number of rings used depends on the pressure requirements of the application. Additional protection of the magnetic liquid seal is achieved by a grease packed labyrinth.
